Laurent Carlier

Head of AI Lab, BNP Paribas


After graduating from Ecole Centrale Paris and with a Master in Applied Maths to Finance from Dauphine University, Laurent joined BNP Paribas in its Tokyo office as a Quantitative Researcher for Global Markets.

He spent most of his career in Quantitative Research, between Tokyo, New York and London, developing Pricing and Risk Management models for trading activities. In 2016 Laurent moved back to Paris to run locally the Global Market Data and AI Lab whose mandate is to leverage recent Machine Learning and AI technologies mostly for the benefit of BNP Paribas’ Sales force and for the Quantitative Investment Strategy team.

Dan Joldzic

President, Alexandria Technologies


Dan Joldzic, CFA, FRM is CEO of Alexandria Technology, Inc, which develops artificial intelligence to analyze financial news. Prior to joining Alexandria, Dan served dual roles as an equity portfolio manager and quantitative research analyst at Alliance Bernstein where he performed factor research to enhance the performance of equity portfolios.

Alexandria Technology builds machine learning algorithms that classify entities, topics, and sentiment in text. The classification systems have been trained by research analysts and market participants, creating an AI analyst that can overcome the challenges of a big data world.

Julien Turc

Head of QIS Lab, BNP Paribas


Julien Turc is a quantitative investment strategist heading the QIS Lab at BNP Paribas. He has 20 years of experience working on quantitative and systematic strategies in all asset classes. His research covers allocation processes, alternative risk premia and hedging. Julien used to be head of cross-asset quant strategy at Société Générale.

His team was awarded the ‘best quant team of the year’ title by Global Capital in 2014, and topped the quant league tables of the Euromoney survey in FX and credit. Julien teaches credit derivatives at Paris 6 University, and machine learning and quant strategies at Paris 7 University. He graduated from Ecole Polytechnique in 1997.

Yoram Layani

Head of Cross Asset Solutions Sales, Asia ex Japan, Global Markets APAC, BNP Paribas


Yoram Layani is Head of Cross Asset Solutions Sales for Asia ex Japan at BNP Paribas, overseeing cross asset solutions for institutional clients.

His team services a wide array of clients across distribution businesses (Retail Banks, Insurance Companies, etc) and Institutionals (Asset Managers, Pensions, and Sovereign Wealth), developing outcome-driven tailor-made solutions in the fields of Investment, Hedging, Long-Term Savings, Alternative and Risk Premia. He joined the Global Equities & Commodity Derivatives division of BNP Paribas Hong Kong in 2007.

Dr. Arnaud de Servigny

Adjunct / Visiting Professor of Finance, Imperial College London


Adjunct / visiting Professor of finance at Imperial College Business School (London), co-launched their Master of Financial Engineering and Risk Management programme in 2005, currently launching a new master in Finance and Machine Learning.

MSc Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussée (Paris, 1987), MSc Quantitative Finance (DEA) from Paris-Dauphine University (1989), and Ph.D. Financial Economics from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University (1997). His publications include many papers and articles as well as five books.

25 years in the financial industry:
  • Former Global Head of Investment Strategy as well as Chairman of the Investment Committee for Barclays Wealth & Investment Management (until 2010)
  • Former Global CIO Wealth Management as well as Global Head Multi-Asset Group (€125bn AuM) for Deutsche Bank Asset & Wealth Management (until 2014)

Yannick Daniel

Managing Director, Head of Multi-Asset and Risk Premia Solutions at BNP Paribas CIB


Yannick heads up the Multi-Asset QIS group at BNP Paribas Corporate and Institutional Banking in London. He has 20 years experience in quantitative investment management, quantitative research and equity derivatives structuring.

Before joining BNP Paribas in 2015, Yannick was in charge of the development of proprietary equity and multi-asset investment strategies at Citigroup Global Markets in London. Prior to Citi, he had the responsibility of Société Générale Index, the range of quantitative indices of Société Générale and also ran the Quantitative Equity Research team at SocGen between 2005 and 2007. Yannick started his career at BNP Paribas CIB where he held various roles before joining BNP Paribas Asset Management as a quantitative Portfolio Manager and later as head of quantitative research and portfolio engineering.

Yannick is a CFA Charterholder and holds a Master in Finance & Applied Economics from Paris Institute of Political Studies , a Master in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from University of Bordeaux and is a graduade from the KEDGE Business School.

Cyril Alvarez-Pereyre

Co-Founder and Partner, Oriskany


Cyril Alvarez-Pereyre is a Co-Founder and Partner at Oriskany, in charge of Business Development. Founded in 2012, Oriskany is a research company in finance and agroecology. Oriskany’s research computes measures of Entropy in real-time to determine low-frequency market regimes.

Prior to founding Oriskany, Cyril was Head of Institutional Sales at TFS Structured Products, a London-based engineering boutique providing investment solutions and structured derivatives to a wide range of Institutional Investors, mainly in Europe.

Cyril is a graduate of the London School of Economics (M.Sc. Accounting & Finance) and Sciences Po Paris (section Eco-Fi), and holds a B.Sc. in Economics.

Dr. David Malkin

AI Architect, Cogent Labs


Dr. David Malkin is an AI Architect at Cogent Labs Tokyo. David's Ph.D. in Computer Science at University College London focused on the optimization of complex networks, including neural networks, using genetic algorithms.

Following his studies, David worked as a quantitative trader using machine learning to develop high-frequency trading algorithms. Seeing the tremendous impact of autonomous systems in financial markets in 2013 David established an AI consulting firm in London helping companies use AI technology. David joined Cogent Labs in the early days of the company in 2015 where he works both on research and business development.

Cogent Labs is a Tokyo based applied AI company which conducts cutting edge research and applies this to real world business challenges, from handwriting recognition to financial time series forecasting.

Hamzah Kahloon

Head of Structuring & Solutions, GM APAC,BNP Paribas


Mr. Hamzah Kahloon is Head of Structuring & Solutions for BNP Paribas Global Markets APAC. Based in Hong Kong, Hamzah is responsible for GM APAC’s solutions and structuring business with corporate and financial institutions. Hamzah works closely with sales teams and other parts of the bank including Coverage, IBA and Wealth Management, to develop solution interactions with clients and boost origination across the region. He is also a member of the Global Markets APAC Executive Committee.

Prior to joining BNP Paribas in August 2017, Hamzah worked at Deutsche Bank’s Global Markets division, where he held a number of senior positions across the emerging markets franchise in his 13 years at the company. Most recently, he was Head of Global Emerging Markets Special Situations, where Hamzah ran origination, structuring, and execution for large sized transactions across all Global Markets asset classes spanning more than 75 countries. Concurrently, Hamzah was also head of Deutsche Bank’s leading MENA & Turkey structured business, responsible for financing, structured credit, derivatives, and Islamic finance and served on the bank’s Executive Committee for Middle East and Africa.

Prior to these roles, Hamzah ran a series of businesses across Central Europe, Europe, Middle East and Africa including NPL and derivatives structuring. Hamzah holds a scholar’s double first-class degree in Economics and Management from St. Anne’s College, University of Oxford.

George Sun

Head of Global Markets, Greater China, BNP Paribas


George Sun is Head of Global Markets for Greater China, responsible for leading and developing BNP Paribas’ fixed income and equities business in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Prior to this, George was Head of FXLM & Commodity Derivatives Institutional Sales and Head of Domestic Clients for Global Markets APAC – responsible for FX, rates and commodity derivatives businesses with the Bank’s institutional clients, as well as domestic clients in the region. George has over 20 years of experience in Asia, the US and Europe. Prior to joining BNP Paribas, he worked at Standard Chartered Bank, where he was Head of Institutional Sales in Asia Pacific and Head of Corporate Sales in North Asia. Previously, he was Co-Head of Fixed Income, Currencies, and Commodities Sales in Asia Pacific ex-Japan at Nomura International; Head of Credit Sales in Asia Pacific ex-Japan at Lehman Brothers; and Managing Director in Global Structured Credit Products at Merrill Lynch. He also worked as a structured finance credit analyst at Standard & Poor’s in New York and London, and began his career as a corporate lawyer at the law firm of Thacher Proffitt & Wood in New York. George holds an undergraduate degree in economics from Harvard University, and a juris doctor degree from Harvard Law School.

Etienne Grisey

Head of Equity Derivatives Structuring, APAC Global Markets, BNP Paribas


Mr. Etienne Grisey is the Head of Equity Derivatives Structuring, APAC, for Global Markets. He joined BNP Paribas in 2002 and has held different positions across various countries within BNP Paribas’ Global Equities and Commodity Derivatives franchise.

After initially working in quantitative research and exotic pricing in Australia, Mr. Grisey moved to New York where he traded and priced exotic derivatives on Brazil, before expanding his coverage to the wider Americas region from 2003 to 2007, with a particular focus on Strategic Equity products.

In 2007 he relocated to Japan where he structured products and solutions for hedge funds, insurance, retail, private banking and corporates. Etienne has been working in Hong Kong since 2009 where he is in charge of BNP Paribas’ Equity Derivatives structuring group for the entire Asia Pacific region.

Mr. Grisey is a graduate of the Ecole des Mines de Paris.

James Hayes

Head of Global Markets Australia & New Zealand, BNP Paribas


Based in Sydney, James Hayes is responsible for BNP Paribas’ Global Market activities in Australia, which currently includes origination and distribution services covering corporate and financial institutions across DCM, interest rate, credit, FX, equity derivative and commodity products.

The role involves the setting and execution of the business strategy plus the day-to-day management of a team of 10 staff across the various global markets disciplines mentioned above.

James has held this role since 2006 and is also a member of the Asia Global Markets Business Committee and the Australian BNP Paribas Management Committee.

Prior to his appointment to this role, James spent 10 years at Nomura Australia Ltd as Head of Fixed Income Sales. He has over 20 years of financial markets experience in various roles including Fixed Income Sales and Funds Management.

James holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of New South Wales.

Yajur Arora

Director, Quantitative Investment Strategies, Global Markets APAC, BNP Paribas


Yajur Arora is a Director in the Quantitative Investment Strategies group at BNP Paribas. He works on structuring and development of cross-asset systematic investment and hedging strategies.

Prior to this he was at Deutsche Bank in New York, where he advised institutional investors and asset managers on alternative investments. He has 10 years of experience in financial markets, having served in various roles in the U.S, Europe and Asia.

He is now based in Hong Kong. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and a Master’s degree in Finance & Economics from London School of Economics, London.

Blair Delzoppo

Partner, EY Data and Analytics


Blair is a highly experienced management consultant and account manager with over twenty years of experience working with top tier consulting firms. He has been a leader in the Information and Analytics space and has worked across public and private sector organisations in Australia, Asia Pacific, the United Kingdom and Spain, in industries as diverse as banking and finance, insurance, telecommunications, utilities, retail and federal & state government.

Blair has been successfully assisting clients to develop Information and Analytics strategies, and then designing and implementing solutions which maximise the use of information. His areas of specialty is Strategy development, the use of use of Big Data and Advanced Analytics in and large Program design and solution delivery.

Blair currently leads Data and Analytics for Financial Services across Asia Pac for EY. He was a leader in the Analytics Practice for IBM Global Business Services and has held consulting roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Chris Barford

Chris is a Director in EY’s Data and Analytics practice, specialising in in Financial Services.

He worked for five years at EY London and moved to EY Hong Kong in 2016 He has over ten years financial services advisory experience with a focus on data and analytics.

He is typically responsible for leading analytics engagements, with a functional focus on risk, finance and regulatory analytics.

Mark Wightman

Juan Madera

Youri Siegel

Youri Siegel is Head of EQD Sales and Structuring in Japan.

Frederic Cosmao

Frederic joined BNP Paribas in 2002 in Mutual Funds trading and structuring in Paris. In 2005, he moved to the Hong Kong office to head the Mutual Funds Trading team.

He later moved to New York, in 2007, to take up the position as Head of GSG Design and Pricing, before returning to Paris in 2012. Frederic holds a masters degree from ENSAE.

Gavin Seewooruttun

Gavin has over 15 years’ experience in digital strategy, program execution and technology operations. Gregoire Loeper

Professor, Sch of Mathematical Sciences, Monash University


Gregoire Loeper is a Professor of Mathematics at Monash University since September 2015. He completed his PhD in mathematics in 2003, then was appointed Assistant Professor at Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University. He then moved to the finance industry where he worked during 9 years for Global Equity and Commodity Derivatives within BNP Paribas.

He occupied there several positions, as a quantitative analyst, then as head of Structured Products Pricing in London, and finally head of Systematic Strategies and Hybrids Quantitative Research. Since his arrival at Monash, he is the director of the Master of Financial Mathematics, and the director of the Centre for Quantitative Finance and Investment Strategies.

His areas of research are: Non Linear PDE's, Stochastic Control, Mathematical Finance, Fluid Mechanics, Optimal Transport.

Tom Liu

CEO and Founder, ChinaScope Limited


Founded ChinaScope in 2009, focusing on applying machine intelligence to the extraction and synthesis of information and transforming it into structured interconnected data. Shen Yantao

Shen Yantao is a senior trader from China Zheshang Bank with more than 12 years’ experience in investment with concentration in cross asset risk premia arbitrage. Mr. Shen graduated from Renmin University of China with a Bachelor in Economics and obtained his Master in Financial Mathematics from Stanford University.
He is a qualified CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute. Mr. Shen worked as quantitative analyst and trader in different financial institutions includes Morgan Stanley in New York and China Minsheng Bank in Beijing, where he was responsible to build quantitative models and execute arbitrage trades based on systematic methodology.

Xuan Lou

Equity exotics trading desk, CITIC CLSA


Mr. Xuan LUO manages CITIC CLSA equity exotics trading desk. Before CLSA, he worked in asset allocation department of Chinese sovereign wealth fund, CIC. He has a deep understanding of cross asset trading, asset allocation and quantitative trading.
He also helped CLSA construct a multi-asset quantitative portfolio, based on which CLSA published a multi-asset index, 1st index that includes US, European, Japanese and onshore Chinese major assets. Mr. Luo has a profound understanding of how quantitative methods and AI-enhanced processes can improve trading performance.

Feng-Yuan Liu

Feng-Yuan was until recently the Singapore Government’s chief data scientist, responsible for driving Smart Nation data science and AI initiatives. He built a startup within government from scratch with an elite crack team of young technologists who’s mission was to harness data for the public good. Feng Yuan is co-founder of Basis, an AI startup still in stealth, whose mission is to transform enterprises with machine intelligence. He has degrees from Oxford University and the London School of Economics and was a recipient of the President’s Scholarship.

Sakyasingha Dasgupta

Chief Technology Officer, Neuri PTE LTD


Sakyasingha Dasgupta is the Chief Technology Officer at Neuri PTE LTD, a Singapore based startup radically changing the way we think about finance with the use of simulation, unstructured data and novel algorithms at the interface of artificial intelligence, theoretical neuroscience and quantum computation. He and his team at Neuri are building a robust platform for risk management, online prediction of financial assets, market sentiment analysis and trading agents that learn to optimize portfolios autonomously. He holds a Masters in Artificial Intelligence and PhD in Physics of Complex Systems with more than a decade of experience in creating novel brain-inspired algorithms and real-world application of machine learning. He holds more than 10 inventions in the areas of machine learning, financial prediction and decision making with neural networks. He has served on the program committee of top robotics conference ICRA and is on the editorial board of Frontiers in Robotics & AI, and Frontiers in Neurorobotics journals. Prior to joining Neuri, he has held various R&D roles in industry. Most recently, he was the Chief Scientist at Ascent Robotics, Japan and a Senior Research Scientist at IBM Research leading a team of researchers on embodied robotics & AI.

Dr Shonali Krishnaswamy

Dr Shonali Krishnaswamy is the CTO of AIDA Technologies (www.aidatech.io). She is also Professor and Deputy Director of the Data Science Institute, Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne. AIDA Technologies is a multi-award winning Machine Learning company that provides advanced Machine Learning products for Banking and Insurance founded in Singapore in 2016. AIDA services top-tier financial services clients in Singapore, ASEAN and India. AIDA Technologies was one of the Top 3 Winning Teams at the Singapore Fintech Festival Hackcelerator organised by the Monetary Authority of Singapore in November 2016. The Hackcelerator received 650 submissions and 20 finalists were shortlisted. AIDA Technologies was a winner of the Monetary Authority of Singapore Fintech Innovation Awards 2017. She has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers in the areas of Mobile User Analytics and Mobile and Distributed Data Stream Mining. Shonali is the recipient of several prestigious awards including: Institute of Engineers (IES) Singapore Prestigious Engineering Award (2015 and 2016), IBM Innovation Award (2008), Australian Research Council Australian Post-Doctoral Fellow (2003-2005) as well as internal recognition / awards at Monash University (Australia) and the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R, Singapore).

Lachlan Evans

Lachlan Evans is a Senior Director at BNP Paribas, Sydney in the Cross-Asset Solutions Group. He works with Superannuation Funds, Insurance Companies and Investments Managers to develop and implement investment solutions across all asset classes. David Schneider

David has authored/co-authored three investment papers, one of which won the 2010 Melville Practitioner Prize by the institute of Actuaries of Australia. Jessica Cao

Head of Structured Investment and Distribution, Beijing, BNP Paribas (China) Limited


Jessica Cao Lele is the Head of Structured Investment and Distribution, Beijing in BNP Paribas China. She oversees structured investment sales business in Northern China. Before joining BNPP in 2016 , she used to work in Citibank and Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore. She held a double degree from National University of Singapore and University of Pennsylvania.

Jimmy Weng

Portfolio Manager, ICBC Credit Suisse (International)


Jimmy re-joined ICBC Credit Suisse (International) in May 2016 as a portfolio manager, leading the firm’s offshore equity and absolute return investment portfolios. Prior to re-joining, Jimmy served as Responsible Officer and Portfolio Manager at Genesis Capital, responsible for all investment and non-investment functions including portfolio management, trading & execution, operations, and investor relations. Jimmy first joined ICBC Credit Suisse in 2011 and served as an assistant portfolio manager, co-managing 3 funds including a HK/China portfolio, a QDII portfolio, and a separately managed account for the National Council for Social Security Fund. Prior to that, Jimmy has gained extensive equities knowledge at Morgan Stanley, Lehman Brothers, and Fidelity Investments. Jimmy obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration summa cum laude from Northeastern University, and received his MBA degree from the Harvard Business School.

Eric Leng

Managing Partner, Crescendi Capital Group


Mr. Eric Leng, 19 years investment experience, is the Managing Partner and Head of Investment Division in Crescendi Capital Group. He was a former Managing Director and senior portfolio manager at UBS Global Asset Management, responsible for global investment management, including global long only portfolio, global long/short market neutral portfolio management. Before joining UBS, Mr. Leng was a senior manager in Credit Suisse Asset Management, responsible for public funds and customer portfolio management. He funded Clotho Capital Group and was an independent manager at Millennium Partners. Mr. Leng started his financial career as an intern at Morgan Stanley, became a senior analyst at American Century Investments and later joined DuPont Company as a portfolio manager. Mr. Leng is a member of CQA and TCFA. Education Background: PhD at Baylor College of Medicine, MBA at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Bachelors at University of Science and Technology of China.

Philippe Noirot

Head of Country, BNP Paribas South Korea


Philippe Noirot is Head of Country for BNP Paribas South Korea, managing BNP Paribas Group’s overall activities in South Korea market, since July 2015. Philippe joined Fortis in 2005, where he was Global Head of Merchant Banking Strategy, Communications and Business Development and a Member of Executive Board for the Merchant Banking Division. From 2009 to 2011, he took leadership of the integration of Corporate & Institutional Banking activities between BNP Paribas and BNP Paribas Fortis for BNP Paribas Group’s acquisition of Fortis Bank. In 2011, Philippe moved to Singapore as Head of Business Development for Corporate Coverage, BNP Paribas Asia Pacific. In October 2013, Philippe was appointed Head of Corporate Deposits & Liquidity, Asia Pacific, subsequently also overseeing Global Coverage Solutions, Asia Pacific. Prior to joining BNP Paribas Group, Philippe held various positions in banking and in the industry, including McKinsey & Company and Euroclear. Philippe holds a civil engineering degree from Université de Liège, Belgium and an MBA from Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business. He is Belgian in nationality and speaks French, English and Dutch.

Hyung Ho Choi

CEO of BNP Paribas Securities Korea


Mr Hyung Ho CHOI is CEO of BNP Paribas Securities Korea. Since joining as the CEO in 2009, he has been responsible for overseeing all of the business operations and strategic decisions at BNP Paribas Securities Korea. Through the variety and years of work experience, Mr Choi has acquired an extensive and in-depth expertise in the financial services industry. Mr Choi, before being named CEO of BNP Paribas Securities Korea, successfully held various high profile positions at Merrill Lynch Securities. He first joined Merrill Lynch Securities in 1990 at Singapore. In 1992, he took up the position of Head of Fixed Income Sales. In 1996, he was Head of Equity at Merrill Lynch Securities Korea. Mr Choi was then assigned as the Head of Fixed Income Sales Asia Pacific at Merrill Lynch Securities Hong Kong in 1998. After two years in Hong Kong, he was appointed as Head of Wealth Management and Co-Country Manager of Merrill Lynch Securities Korea before taking the helm as Head of GMI and Country Manager in 2003. Mr Choi started his career at Bank of Korea in 1979 prior to working at Shinhan Bank from 1989 to 1990. Mr Choi holds a Bachelor Degree in Economics from the Yonsei University.

With over a decade of experience within the responsible investment industry, Julia has a thorough understanding of company sustainability assessments and reporting frameworks. She has been involved in the collation and construction of sustainability indices and has contributed to a wide range of thematic reports on corporate ESG challenges. Julia also has extensive experience in stakeholder engagement having participated in numerous multi‐stakeholder groups and investor collaborations, as well as working with a broad range of investors to incorporate ESG criteria into their investment processes. Julia holds a Masters in Environmental Management and Development from the Australian National University, and a combined Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration/European Studies and Sustainable Development from the Universities of Münster (Germany) and Twente (Netherlands).

Based in Sydney, Mike is a Partner in the Data and Analytics practice for EY. He has more than 20 years’ experience, both in professional services and industry, in designing, delivering and operating data driven solutions and working with teams to deliver value through analytics. Mike’s focus is on strategy to align data needs and capabilities with business strategy and objectives; and develop pragmatic plans for implementation that deeply consider the needs and nuances of the client organisation. With a focus on government and public sector clients, Mike is particularly passionate about how data can be used to improve outcomes that benefit society while actively seeking to minimise unintentional harm through provision of appropriate control across the data life cycle. Prior to EY, Mike worked in the telco industry where he established and led Telstra’s Fraud and Revenue Assurance function.
